No, I don't think there's anything complex or auteuristic about Vampire Weekend. They're just another band from Brooklyn, except they like Oxford shirts and sweaters a lot more than V-necks. So yes, their second LP Contra comes out in January, and expect the buzz to be flooded with newcomers and people who watch MTVu, like roaches to a Bowery apartment building.
Not as tender and tropical as their first single Horchata, Cousins is frenetic like A-Punk and rides mostly on repetition and rattling guitar chords. But all in all, it's a pretty favorable track - at least they're consistent, and with a following like Ezra and the gang have now, it's a good thing. Still creeped out by the polo'd zombie gal on the cover, though. WHO...ARE...YOU?? -- PC
